Information Sent Directly
Search Terms
When a visitor enters a name, place, or other query into a search tool, the request is passed to the third-party provider that operates that tool. Durham County Busted Mugshots does not store or keep a log of those search terms on its own systems. The provider’s privacy notice and terms apply after the request leaves this site.
Messages and Contact Forms
An email or contact-form message can include the sender’s address, name, and whatever details the sender chooses to provide. Those messages are kept as needed to read and answer them. They are not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law or needed to address a legal request.
Technical Details Collected
Routine server and analytics systems can record basic information each time a page loads. The details may include:
- Internet Protocol address.
- Browser name and version.
- Device type and operating system.
- Pages viewed and the time spent on each page.
- The referring page or site, when one is supplied.
- Date and time stamps for requests.
Cookies and Similar Tools
Cookies may help measure how visitors use the pages and can support site functions. A browser can block or delete cookies through its settings. Some features may work differently when cookies are refused.
How the Information Is Used
Information is used for ordinary operation and service improvement. Depending on the data and the feature involved, uses can include:
- Keeping the pages available, stable, and reasonably fast.
- Sending a search request to the appropriate partner service.
- Understanding which pages visitors find useful.
- Finding errors and fixing technical problems.
- Showing advertising that may relate to a visitor’s interests.
Links Beyond This Service
Pages may link to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office roster and Records Division, the Durham County Clerk and North Carolina eCourts, NCDAC, federal locators, ICE, government public-record sources, news outlets, and third-party search tools. Once a visitor follows one of those links, that organization’s privacy notice and data practices control.
North Carolina public-record rules also belong to the agency that holds a record. Chapter 132 of the North Carolina General Statutes is the starting point for the state’s public-records framework, but this notice does not change an agency’s disclosure duties, exemptions, or request process. Advertising partners may also track activity across different sites for targeted advertising on their own systems.
Who May Receive Data
Personal data is not sold by this site. Limited information may nevertheless reach service providers or public authorities involved in the functions described above:
- Search partners that process queries entered into their tools.
- Analytics services that measure page use and performance.
- Advertising networks that deliver or measure ads.
- Law-enforcement or government bodies responding to a valid legal order or other lawful demand.
Security Efforts and Limits
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for the information handled by the service. No internet-connected system is completely secure, however. These efforts reduce risk but do not create a promise that data will never be accessed, lost, altered, or exposed.
Visitors Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor has sent personal data, a parent or guardian may contact the service and ask that the information be deleted.
Choices About Personal Data
Subject to applicable law and the service’s ability to identify the request, a visitor may ask about personal information handled here. Requests may include:
- A copy of personal data held by the service.
- Correction of inaccurate information supplied by the visitor.
- Deletion of information when the service has no legal reason to keep it.
- Opting out of certain forms of processing, where that option is available.
Changes to This Privacy Notice
Privacy practices can change as the service, vendors, or legal requirements change. A revised notice will be posted here with a new effective date. Continued use after an update means the revised practices apply to later activity.
